Dear _title and last name
I am writing to you about my concern that the NSW Government will not invest in the restoration of the rail line from Maitland to Bellbird and commence the regular passenger train services this growing population urgently needs.
The Cessnock Electorate has provided 107 years of Labor MPs and as such has become an ultra-safe seat. I fear that this status has harmed and will continue to harm our community; as each new government continues to invest in more marginal seats to secure votes.
An opportunity now exists for the NSW Government to not only disprove our collective concern over safe electorate neglect, but to provide modern and effective public transport options to a rapidly growing regional area. Even though the draft strategic transport plan 2021 mentions trains from Newcastle to Cessnock via Kurri Kurri; there is no timeframe as to when this will occur.
From the information contained in the ‘Train To Cessnock’ report, it is clearly evident that the timing to commence this project is right now; not in 10, 15 or 20 years time. I understand you may have a copy of this professionally researched and prepared report, if not please visit www.traintocessnock.org and download a pdf copy.
It is important that the NSW Government acts quickly while the predicted costs are the most affordable they will ever be, to achieve a great infrastructure improvement for both the Maitland and Cessnock Electorates.
The population of Cessnock is now predicted to be over 112,000 by 2041; a 60% increase. There is currently no adequate public transport, a high reliance on private vehicles and huge existing traffic problems in and out of the City of Cessnock.
Please take this positive political opportunity to provide the youth, the elderly, the many disadvantaged people in this area safe and independent public transport.
I urge you to support and become a champion for the proposal contained in the 2024 ePetition to the Legislative Assembly (Protect the South Maitland Rail corridor and urgent reintroduction of passenger rail services: Maitland to Bellbird) and the traintocessnock.org proposed project case report.
Please provide me with a reply, outlining your position in supporting this community and providing regular passenger train services to Bellbird as a matter of NSW Government of urgent attention.
Regards
